New to Garlicoin? Start here
Garlicoin (GRLC) is a fun, community-run cryptocurrency with fast 40-second blocks and tiny fees. Here's how to go from nothing to your first GRLC in a couple of minutes, for free. Already have a wallet? Here's how to get more GRLC.
Garlicoin in a minute
- What it isA real cryptocurrency that started in 2018 as a garlic bread joke and never stopped. A new block every 40 seconds, and fees of a fraction of a cent.
- Get some freeRoll the faucet every 8 hours, and enter the free daily Block Lotto.
- Keep it safeCoins live on the blockchain; a wallet holds the key to them. Try our browser wallet for everyday amounts, or Garlicoin Core and Garlium on a computer. Whoever has the key has the coins.
- Send and sharePay friends, send GRLC by link, get a @name, or write on the wall.
Your first steps
- Get a wallet. The quickest is our browser wallet: ready in a minute, nothing to download, and your key stays on your device. It's made for everyday amounts. For savings, use Garlicoin Core on your computer; the first time, it downloads the whole blockchain, which our bootstrap file makes much faster.
- Find your address. In the browser wallet, tap Receive; in Garlicoin Core, open the Receive tab. Your address is what you give people so they can send you GRLC.
- Get free GRLC. Roll the faucet every 8 hours, and enter the free daily Block Lotto. In the browser wallet, both are one tap from the home screen. Coins usually show up within a minute.
- Send your first GRLC. Pay a friend's address or their @name, or send GRLC by link to someone who doesn't have a wallet yet: they open the link and claim it.
- Have some fun with it. Play free games, write a message into the blockchain on the wall, get your own garlic name, or print a gift card for a friend.
Is my wallet synced?
In Garlicoin Core open Help → Debug window and type the Current number of blocks here. On a server, run garlicoin-cli getblockcount.
Garlicoin addresses
Starts with grlc1
The newest kind (bech32). Easy to read out and type, with built-in error checking.
Starts with G or M
Older kinds. They still work everywhere and can be sent to as normal.
Always copy and paste addresses rather than typing them. Coins sent to a wrong address can't be recovered. Not sure about one? Check it here.
Keep your coins safe
- Save your key. The browser wallet shows it to you when you make a wallet, and can save an encrypted backup. In Garlicoin Core, use File → Backup Wallet. Keep a copy somewhere other than the device.
- Use a passphrase you won't forget: nobody can reset it for you.
- Never share your key, wallet file or passphrase. Nobody legitimate will ever ask for them.
